Marvel's 'Black Panther: Wakanda Forever' wins at the box office with a huge $180 million opening

The Marvel sequel earned $180 million in ticket sales from more than 4,396 theaters in the US and Canada,

according to Disney estimates on Sunday, making it the second-highest opening of the year behind "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

" Overseas, it brought in an additional $150 million, bringing its worldwide total to $330 million.

The film opened strongly with an opening day of $84 million,

including $28 million from Thursday's previews.

"Some might have expected $200 million like the first film, but it's solid," says Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst at comScore.

"This is the type of film that theaters need to really attract audiences."
